Around six nurses per shift answer calls at Berkshire Medical Center’s COVID-19 call center at the hospital in Pittsfield. The call center, which is designated to answering calls related to COVID-19, has been set up to manage testing and give advice to callers who are concerned about their own or a family member’s health related to the new coronavirus. As of Thursday morning, the registered nurses answering phones at the center had fielded 3,376 calls since it opened on March 8, and are now averaging over 300 calls per day during the 12 hours the call center is active.
